Advanced Learning Program & Skill building (ALPS)

A community learning program of inclusive and engaging modules offering the unique opportunity to reach your peak learning potential.  Our goal is to help you learn a new skill or strengthen an existing skill while enjoying time with fellow community members of all ages and abilities. The ALPS Program offers modules every month focusing in the below areas of interest:


 Cooking - Creative Arts - Health & Wellness 

Recreation & Entertainment - Practical Technology  



Modules

Cooking with Care

Our cooking modules are designed for individuals of all skill levels to learn how to make cooking and baking simple, fun and safe. Under the guidance of RWJ Hamilton Dietician, Lori Hager, participants will practice their kitchen skills while learning how to add or substitute nutritious ingredients into each recipe. We review all of the basics with easy recipes that can work for your unique kitchen at home. How to make seasonal treats, kitchen hacks for meal prep or leftovers, and healthy eating are just some of the topics that will be covered under our modules. 

Creative Adventures

Creative projects are an outlet for self expression. In this module, participants will complete a variety of art that explore and develop their creativity in visual, literary, media and performing arts. Workshops may practice topics such as photography, yarn work, sculpting, drawing, and writing personal narratives. Participants will have a supportive space to learn new art techniques and express individual artistic visions.  

Health in Motion

Your health is important! In this fitness module, we will explore moving our bodies with a variety of safe, adapted exercises. Throughout the year, we will learn the basics of different cardio, strength, and endurance workouts. We offer a supportive and motivating environment for participants of all fitness levels.  

Wellness Essentials

We want to help you feel your best physically, mentally and emotionally. Our wellness module will demonstrate easy practices for mindfulness, stress management, and building positive habits. You can also expect modules related to healthcare wellness including advocating for yourself, navigating your doctor’s visits, and managing your own health needs. 

Practical Technology

New advances in technology can be difficult to keep up with. Join us for Practical Technology modules that focus on learning how to use your smart devices, navigating the internet, and new ways to keep in touch with loved ones. Practical Technology will also offer modules that help you to see finance as an important part of your overall wellness with topics including budgeting, financial literacy, and online banking. 

Lifestyle & Leisure

Our program is an opportunity for you to challenge yourself, have fun, and connect with others. Additional modules in our year will focus on unique areas of interest including Reading, Home & Garden, Travel, Animals, Board Games, and STEM.
